Islamic Cordoba’s Message of Coexistence Refutes the Idea of Clash of Civilisations

The Muslim Spain, formerly known as Al-Andalus, was marked by tolerance and religious harmony among Muslims, Jews and Christians who lived there for a long age in complete peace and affinity setting a great example of interfaith harmony and co-existence. Córdoba (called Qartaba in Arabic) was the capital in the region that represented a leading cultural and economic centre – of both the Mediterranean and the Muslim world as a whole. The documentary movie titled “Out of Córdoba” filmed by Jewish-American filmmaker Jacob Bender is a refutation of the idea that there is a clash of civilisations in the world. It invokes the tolerant spirit of Muslim Córdoba and traces back the life stories of two 12th century figures of philosophy: the Muslim Ibn Rushd and the Jewish Maimonides as the historical epitomes of coexistence between Islam and Judaism
