Once again hate speech by a Hindu priest has incensed the Muslim community all over India. In various cities, protests have erupted and FIRs are being lodged against Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, a Hindu priest for his objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

"If you have to burn effigies on every Dussehra, then burn the effigies of Mohammad," said Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, the ‘Peethadheeshwar’ of the famous Dasna Temple in Ghaziabad during an event on September 29, 2024. He made this obnoxious comment in the village of Sultanpur, Laskar, Haridwar district, Uttarakhand.
The fact-checker Alt News’ has confirmed the authenticity of the viral quote with video footage of the intemperate remarks made by the Hindu priest.
This is not the first time Narsinghanand has stirred controversy with his hate speeches. In December 2021, Narsinghanand called on Hindus to use better weapons against the "threat of Muslims". He delivered the speech at the congregation of religions in Haridwar, 'Dharm Sansad'. There are several cases registered against Narsinghanand, but all is hunky and dory in the Modi Raj. This includes an open call for the genocide of the Muslims in India.
The disrespectful comment about Prophet Muhammad by Narsinghanand led to the eruption of Muslim protests all over India. It was witnessed in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and cities like Hyderabad and Srinagar.
Muslim mobs shouted the slogan ‘Gustake Rasool ki Saza- Sar Tan Se Juda,’ against the Hindu priest.
Narsinghanand is detained by the UP police and kept in an undisclosed location. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a firefighting exercise has commented that derogatory remarks against deities, “great figures” or saints of any caste, religion, or sect are “unacceptable.” It would be dealt with strictly under the law. At the same time, he added; “vandalism” arson in the name of protest will not be tolerated and those doing so would also face the consequences.”
Recently the US government Commission has alleged the worsening of religious freedom in India and called for it to be designated as a “Country of Particular Concern.” In response, the Indian government has rejected the US commission as “biased” and termed its report as “malicious.”
A similar kind of response came from India when Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei directed attention to the Ummah saying that Muslims cannot be oblivious to the suffering of people of their faith in India.
“The enemies of Islam have always tried to make us indifferent about our shared identity as an Islamic Ummah. We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place,” Khamenei has said.
These comments drew sharp criticism from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. “We strongly deplore the comments made regarding minorities in India by the Supreme Leader of Iran. These are misinformed and unacceptable,” an MEA statement said.
On May 27, 2022, a BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma, on a ‘Times Now’ TV debate on the Gyanvapi Mosque dispute took objection to Prophet Muhammad’s marriage to Bibi Aisha Sidiquia when she was six years old. This marriage was consummated when the bride was nine years of age. Nupur Sharma was commenting about a marriage that took place in 623 AD in Medina Saudi Arabia.
Nupur Sharma was making an allegation in 2022 against the Prophet Muhammad for marrying an underage girl thus questioning his character. Her remarks evoked worldwide protest including more than 50 countries where Muslims are in majority and where many Hindus are earning their livelihood.
The BJP government immediately removed Nupur Sharma from the coated post and security officers took her to an undisclosed location fearing any Muslim group that wanted to take her tongue in revenge.
Here a mention should be made about the book ‘Rangila Rasul’ i.e. Colourful Prophet, published in May 1924 by Rajpal & Sons, a publication house in Daryagang Delhi. The book deals with the marriages of Prophet Muhammad and his predisposition to take wives. Originally the book was published in Urdu but later translated into Hindi, by Pandit Chamupati, and its copies were sold like hot cake.
The Muslim response to this was violent. A Pathan from Peshawar travelled to Delhi in 1928 and knifed the author of the book, near Ghantaghar Chandni Chowk in broad daylight. The saga of the punishment of the crime ‘Gustake Rasool ki Saza- Sar Tan Se Juda,’ was witnessed by many onlookers present at the spot of the crime.
