How Your Display Picture (DP) Reveals Your Personality

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 11 November 2024 Recently, a leading French daily stated in its editorial that DPs (Display Pictures) on WhatsApp and other social media can reveal a lot about the personality of the users. This got me thinking. It's well-nigh impossible to know a person completely because to quote Salman Rushdie, ' To know a person, one has to swallow the whole world.' Yet, attempts are made to know even the outlines of a person's persona. This latest DP analysis could be one, though may not be clinching evidence. It has been found that those who keep changing their DPs at the drop of a hat are a bit frivolous and fickle-minded. They're also indolent lotus eaters. They're not sure of themselves, though it could be contentious. Many individuals, esp. female users, put their pics in different poses and postures. They keep doing this 'remarkable' exercise as if their lives hinge on it. They come across as a trifle self-obsessed and even narcissistic. They're often loud in life and in their actions. Some individuals refrain from putting their pics. Instead, they put a scene from nature. They're a reticent and not unnecessarily exuberant type. They carry themselves well and have a sense of dignity and decorum. Those who religiously and regularly put the pics of deities in that space can be safely called (exasperatingly) religious. Those who just display an insignificant picture and don't change it for months and years are level-headed and practical individuals who don't care for these frivolities and inanities. To them, there are far better things to do in life than continue to change DPs. Now, a new trend is emerging all over the world. It's called DP fatigue. Many users simply leave their DP space blank and put nothing in it. These people love their own space. They may be jovial, even convivial. But they value their solitude, space, serenity and sanctity. They don't tom-tom. These users believe in the age-old dictum: Actions speak louder than words. Not putting any picture in the DP and leaving that space empty is a sign of maturity. This analysis may lack seriousness and cannot be called defining at all, yet there's no gainsaying the fact that your Display Picture could be a tell-tale sign of your personality and a Freudian Slip of your subconscious self. Finally, it's all fun but even fun has a skerrick of fact/s.
