" Amy Gerstler While I love reading Arshad Saheb’s articles on this site, his latest one, 'Spiritual Relations Between Syed Ahmad Khan And Narendra Modi: Walter Semkiw's Claims,' is a trifle far-fetched. Sir Syed may have hobnobbed with the Brits for the upliftment of his community, he was certainly an educated man but our NaMo is correspondingly uneducated! That said, this whole business of rebirth and reincarnation is a humongous hoax and I fully agree with Dr Ghulam Mohiyuddin that, "Every outlandish theory will have at least some followers in America! " Reincarnation and rebirth have no scientific basis. Both are just 'spiritually' edifying theories. Many cultures have independently developed a belief system in reincarnation that includes return of the unit of consciousness to another physical lifetime on Earth. The beliefs concerning reincarnation have a great (ethical) impact on human life and our relationship to the world. Mankind's collective reluctance to accept death as the ultimate finality as well as reality makes most of us believe in all these weird and unscientific theories and beliefs like Afterlife, Hereafter, Posthumous Existence, Reincarnation, Rebirth and all that jazz. These are all scriptural and doctrinal beliefs that have failed to stand up to scrutiny. You'll be amazed to know that the 'enlightened' Buddha himself was equivocal on beliefs like reincarnation and rebirth despite reincarnation being the later and also late essence of Buddhism. Both Jainism and Buddhism, almost contemporary faiths, questioned the Avtaarvaad Siddhant of Brahminical Hinduism. Ironically, both got afflicted with the same malady! When the pristine Eastern Consciousness / Spirit degenerated into a corrupt belief system and became Hinduism, all sorts of spiritual and philosophical garbage crept into it. The fallacious belief in the indestructibleness of soul, which has no basis and no foundation, engendered all these intangible beliefs and theories. Rebirth and reincarnation are fit and good for amusement and spinning a yarn. And that's it.
