He says that that the old policy distinction made by the Musharraf regime between the Afghan Taliban, the Pakistan Taliban, and the foreign Al- Qaeda fighters, is largely misplaced. His argument is that there is an unholy nexus between all three elements and both strategic and tactical policy against them should reflect an understanding of this network.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan denies links with India

The spokesman said the TTP came into existence in the name of jihad and its aim was to fight a holy war against India and the United States forces in Afghanistan. Maulvi Umer said the TTP had damaged India’s interests in Afghanistan in many actions. He said the TTP could not even think of taking financial assistance from India, an enemy, to create chaos and law and order problems in Pakistan. The spokesman said India was the worst enemy of Pakistan. He said a responsible person like Rehman Malik should avoid issuing statements that were not based on facts as such statements were not in the interests of Pakistan.

In fact, some of the people concerned– Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his advisor on interior affairs Rehman Malik — are both out of the country. The government’s detractors, however, had a field day denouncing the government as inefficient. Some of them castigated Malik for his inept handling of the issue. Siddiqul Farooq, the spokesperson of Pakistan Muslim League ( Nawaz), which theoretically is still a partner in the ruling coalition, says taking back of the notification proves the government is turning out to be good for nothing.
