Reality check: The American-Pakistani disconnect

Reality check: The American-Pakistani disconnect

Pakistan's complaints do not end here. It accuses the Americans, who are the power behind the puppet Afghan government, of allowing anti-Pakistan activities to take place on Afghan soil. They have allowed the Indian government to establish consulates in various places near the Pakistani border that have only one purpose; to create trouble in Baluchistan and engage in sabotage and terrorism in other parts of the country. They have also through the puppet Afghan government provided sanctuary to anti Pakistan elements such as Brahamdagh Bugti and others.

Pakistan's agony

Pakistan's agony

At the same time, we should note that the legitimacy of leaders in democratic states is based on elections and economic systems that generate jobs and incomes for a large majority of their populations. If either is missing, there is instability. One of the reasons for militancy in tribal areas has been the legitimacy deficit both on the political and economic fronts; for instance the unemployment rate for the age group of 15-25 years in Waziristan is above 80 per cent! No wonder it became a breeding ground for militancy which then transformed Waziristan into a safe haven for fighters challenging Pakistan, the Afghan government and the allied troops.

Ulema ask US to accept failure in Afghanistan

The first demand is to announce US failure in Afghanistan; the second is to withdraw US and allied forces from Afghanistan and the third is to compensate the Afghan government for killing of thousands of people and damaging their houses and property.“Let the Afghans be free and give them an opportunity to rebuild their country,” the Ittehad Ulema-e-Afghanistan said, adding that after US forces’ arrival and attacks in Afghanistan, the situation became from bad to worse.
