Qazi Nazrul Islam Was The Driving Force behind Muslim Renaissance in Bengal

Qazi Nazrul Islam was the most important poet and writer of Bengali after Rabindranath Tagore. He injected a new life among the people of Bengal through his speech and writings. He rebelled not only against the British government but also against social evils plaguing the society. He campaigned against superstition, illiteracy, exploitation, religious fanaticism and communalism. For this reason he was called VIdrohi Kavi (rebel poet).
During the period Qazi Nazrul Islam began writing, Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore dominated the literary scene of Bengal and most of the Bengali poets of the period were influenced by his thought and style. They could not come out of the shadow of Rabindranath Tagore. His poetry was mostly mystical and spiritual with Vedantic undertones. Therefore his language and diction was soft and tender.
But Qazi Nazrul Islam refused to be influenced by Tagore's style and diction as he was of a rebellious nature. He adopted a different style and diction according to the demands of the time. He had revolutionary thoughts and was against the British government. That's why he adopted a style and language that best conveyed his revolutionary ideas and messages. He used a language that reverberated with life and his words were full of sound and fury. Since he had served in the army for three years, his poems also have rhyme and meter giving impression of sounds of military boots and drums. He adapted a language that was replete with Persian Arabic and Urdu words which was called Mussalmani Bangla. This language appealed a larger section of people and soon he became the most popular poet of Bengal.
Qazi Nazrul Islam wrote his path-breaking poem "Bidrohi"(rebel) in 1922 when he was only 23 years old. The poem was published in Bijli and all the copies of the weekly newspaper were sold within hours and the poem had to be published again in the next issue of the newspaper on public demand. The poem made him a star overnight.
To liberate the country from the British Empire, Nazrul Islam not only wrote poems and songs but also joined politics and published newspapers and periodicals.
Qazi Nazrul Islam was also worried over social evils, superstition, growing communalism and exploitation of gullible masses by the mullahs and pundits and fought against them through his speech and writing. He strived to bring awareness among the masses about their rights and their strength.
Qazi Nazrul Islam was a liberal and secular minded poet and writer. He especially tried to remove superstition and illiteracy from among them and tried to rid them from the clutches of mullaism. He had in-depth knowledge of both Islam and Hinduism. Thanks to his knowledge of Islamic history he could write poems on Islamic personalities like Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Khalid bin Walid, Maulana Mohammad Ali and Haji Mohammad Mohsin (great philanthropist of Bengal). He also wrote poems on liberal Islamic personalities like Mustafa Kamal Pasha, leader and reformer of Turkey and King Amanullah Khan of Afghanistan. The purpose behind writing these poems was to bring Renaissance among the Muslims of Bengal. His poem "Amanullah" is based on the liberal ruler of Afghanistan; Amanullah Khan had tried to bring social and educational reforms among Afghan Muslims. His wife Soraiya Tarzi was an educated lady and was instrumental in establishing schools and colleges for girls. Amanullah also planned to bring legislative reforms in Afghanistan.
These reforms antagonised the mullah community in the country who enjoyed power and influence over the Afghans. Mullah Shorebazaar was the most respected religious leader. Therefore, the religious community that had exploited the Afghan Muslims for centuries feared that the reforms would bring an end to their power and position. So, one tribal leader called Baccha-e-Saqqa (son of a water carrier) revolted against him and his ten year long rule came to an end. Probably he had visited India and Qazi Nazrul Islam had written the poem on that occasion. In this poem he praises Amanullah’s reforms and his good treatment oh Hindus. He says, "In your rule, Hindus are not called kafir but "Birader-e- Hind"(Brothers from India) and their temples and idols are not demolished in your country. You have proved that Afghanistan is not only the country of Abdalis and Nadir Shahs but of love and brotherhood."
Nalzrul Islam's another poem is on Turkey's leader and reformer Mustafa Kamal who fought bravely on behalf of the Ottoman Empire against the Allies including Britain. In this poem he praises the military prowess and valour of Mustafa Kamal. He writes,"Kamal tuney Kamal Kiya Bhai."
Qazi Nazrul Islam also wrote good poems on Muslim festivals like Eid, Baqrid, Moharram, Fateha Dowazdaham etc. In these poems, he reminds Muslims of the true message of these festivals. He rues the fact that Muslims celebrate these festivals as a routine event oblivious of their duties and responsibilities. They celebrate Eid but forget it's message of brotherhood; they celebrate Baqrid but forget that it asks Muslims to develop the spirit of sacrifice for the welfare of the society and the community; they celebrate Moharram but have lost the spirit to fight against oppression and die for the sake of truth; they celebrate Fateha Dwazdaham but do not obey the prophet and do not lead their lives according to the injunctions of the Quran and Hadith.
Qazi Nazrul Islam fought against religious exploitation in both Hindus and Muslims. During 1925, poets, writers and political activists had launched a movement against the highhandedness and sexual exploitation by the priests of Tarakeshwar temple in Hooghly in Bengal. The movement was led by Desh Bandhu Chittaranjan Das. Subhash Chandra Bose and Nazrul also participated in it. Nazrul wrote the campaign song for it.
Rise, rise O Bangbashi
Chandals have ruined Bengal's Kashi
End to their lust  there ain't
And we call them saint
The dignity of our mothers and sisters
Is sacrificed at mother's alter
His writings against conservatism, religious narrow-mindedness and obscurantism created awareness among the Muslim masses of the undivided Bengal and a group of Muslim writers and intellectuals emerged and challenged mullaism and high-handedness of religious leadership. Women started asserting their position in society much to the chagrin of mullahs. During this period a Muslim woman called Fazilatunnisa became the first Muslims. Graduate of Dhaka University and later went abroad for higher studies. In Dhaka, the movement for liberalism gained momentum. On 18th April1929, "Mullaki Nibaran Sangh"(Mullaism Prevention Committee) was constituted in Albert Hall of Kolkata. Many liberal ulema and intellectuals joined the committee. An excerpt from the resolution of the committee is presented below:
"Since Mullaism is against the basic principles of Islam and is based on 'Purohitvad' and since Mullahs have been misusing the Quran and Hadith to fulfil their personal aspirations, if Muslims are not freed from the clutches of these mullahs, educating them and bringing social and economic independence among them and bringing them at par with other communities in scientific development would not be possible. Therefore, in order to rid Muslims of the influence of the Mullahs to lead them on the path of development in the light of Islamic teachings, it is proposed that a "Mullaism Prevention Committee" should be constituted.”
In short, Qazi Nazrul Islam was the driving force behind the wave of Muslim Renaissance in undivided Bengal.

Bengal is on a Cusp of Change, Muslims Must Act Wisely

By Arshad Alam, New Age Islam
14 May 2019
As generally happens when a group of Muslims sit together, the topic of discussion is almost always Islam. I found myself being part of such a discussion in Kolkata recently. One statement by a fellow Muslim still rings in my ears: ‘although we are a minority here, yet they (the Hindus) know very well that one Muslim is equal to ten Bengalis and that’s why they never disturb us in whatever we do’. This masculine assertion was perhaps part of the Muslim discourse elsewhere too, till some time ago, but with the gradual loss of political power and social esteem, it is hardly heard now.
But Bengal is a different territory. The current political party, the TMC, is partly in power because of Muslim support which will only increase in the coming years as the BJP gains ground in the state. Since the last twelve years, the TMC has been in power and has certainly grafted itself onto the hearts and minds of Muslims. Through an affirmative action program which reserves seats for Muslim OBCs to establishing the iconic Alia University, the party is seen to be doing work for Muslims. There is a certain entrepreneurial sentiment which has developed during this decade amongst the Muslims. Through the construction of new shops and mosques, Muslims have started making their presence felt across different cities of the state.
Symbolically, Mamta Banerjee has done much to boost the confidence of this section: from appearing in headscarf to giving salaries to mosque Imams, she has endeared herself to the Muslim voter despite the charge of appeasement. The TMC is perhaps the only party which defends its pro-minority stand by speaking a language of inclusion.
Things were not so good for Muslims earlier. The TMC took power from the CPIM, which ruled the state for 25 years. It is to the credit of the communists that they never let any anti-Muslim violence happen in the state during their rule. However, as the Sachar committee report pointed out, the condition of Muslims remained pitiable. They were hardly represented in government jobs, had very low income and were educationally marginalised. Of course, the CPIM was not the sole reason why Muslims were in such a deplorable state.
Historically, the upper and middle class Muslims shifted to Pakistan after partition; the only Muslims left were the ordinary peasants and craftsperson who were providing services to the Hindu middle and upper classes. The communists, who came on the slogan of revolutionary change, maintained this social consensus where the Hindu Bengalis were mostly serviced by poor Muslims. It is also important to understand that most of the leadership of the CPIM was basically caste Hindus from Bangladesh. In their historical consciousness, the Muslims always remained a disturbing other. After all, it were the Muslims who took away their land, their social status, etc. which they enjoyed in East Bengal. The top leadership of the CPIM, who were basically from the other side of border, never gave any thought to the Muslim question in West Bengal. They had to tolerate the Muslims and even maintain a veneer of secularism because Muslims were their most loyal vote-bank. But beyond that, their historical antipathy towards Muslims blinded them to think in terms of any ameliorative action for this destitute community. Perhaps, within the social consensus which the communists effected, they derived a vicarious pleasure to see the Muslim community remain as the subservient class of service providers. A minister, who served in the last Left front government, but has now joined the Congress party told me: ‘the Left leadership was quite happy with the existing status quo amongst communities. Whenever I tried to raise the issue of Muslim empowerment, I was told that there was a certain line which I should not cross’.
The Muslim vote was decisive in bringing TMC to power. Mamta Banerjee assiduously cultivated a pro-Muslim image which in actual practice meant that she pandered to the most conservative sections of the Muslims. Not only did she don the Islamic headwear when appearing in Muslim functions but she made sure to move around with orthodox Mullahs, who were always ready to do her bidding. However, it is also true all this was not just for symbolism alone. Through the Alia University and OBC reservation, Muslims have benefited tangibly. The extent of Muslim empowerment can be debated but what is certain is that Muslims have felt, after many years that they can assert themselves as now they have a government which they can relate to and call as their own. It is during her tenure that Muslims have for the first time found space in state controlled academic institutions like Jadavpur University. In certain departments, Muslims have been recruited as faculty for the first time since the inception of the university. This is certainly not to take away the hard work that these Muslims have put to secure a place as teachers within such institutions of higher learning. But surely, such qualified Muslims must have existed before. However, the social consensus that operated under the Left saw to it that Muslims were certainly excluded from such positions.
Amongst the Muslims, there has been a certain distaste and even revulsion that has developed for the Left, which means that it will be very difficult for them to stage a comeback. Even their track record of preventing riots in Bengal is now being questioned. As one of the faculty members at Alia University told me: ‘since Muslims were so poor during the time of CPIM, they were not a threat to the Hindu population. Riots did not happen because of the Left front government’s secular credentials, but because within society there was no objective reasons present for economic antagonism between Hindus and Muslims’. However, more than a decade of TMC rule has seen the rise of Muslim businesses in different cities. Also, Muslims increasingly are opting for higher education and even getting into government jobs. All this has led to a greater visibility of Muslims in the public sphere. What has also happened is the increased display and assertion of religiosity amongst Muslims.
Performing Namaz on the roadside and blocking traffic is not a new thing nor is it that it only happens in Bengal. However, riots in Dhulagarh (in which Hindu property was attacked and damaged) is evidence that the new found confidence amongst Muslims has the potential to rile a section of Hindus who otherwise had no problems with the exercise of such religiosity. The sentiment expressed by my friend at the beginning of this article is also not new; however, in the context of Bengal, this self-perception leads to the near obsolescence of other communities with whom Muslims have to live.
What is perhaps more dangerous in the long run is the very economic and educational mobility of Muslims. This Muslim mobility threatens the very social consensus which has been built over many decades in the state. For an average Hindu who is accustomed to seeing Muslims as nothing more than a plumber, electrician or a car mechanic, it will be too much for him to treat this community of service providers as his equal. And yet, slowly and surely, individuals from this community are challenging the historical status quo by landing government jobs, bidding for contracts, opening new businesses and even teaching in elite universities. During my visit to different parts of the state, I could sense this resentment against Muslims already.
Influential sections within the Hindu society could start looking for a political alternative that will once again reinforce the social consensus between Hindus and Muslims. The ruling TMC has already sensed this: and is making amends by shunning Islamic symbolism and even funding puja pandals. However, this might be too little too late. The BJP, which is trying hard to make inroads into the state, is leaving no stone unturned to campaign against the pro-appeasement policies of the TMC. It is entirely possible that for a section of Hindus, the BJP might appear as the political force which will bring back the social consensus by showing Muslims their place. Already, the signs are ominous. There are credible reports that some percentage of traditional Left voters will vote for the BJP in this election. The Left still commands nearly 30% of the votes and if a substantial section of this vote gets transferred to the BJP, then the party will surely become the most important player in Bengal politics.
It will be foolish to argue that Muslims should not empower themselves for fear of antagonising the Hindu community. However, what they can certainly do is to tone down their religious rhetoric and exhibitionism. They should also be careful not to practice non-essential aspects of their religion which might have the potential to upset the religious sentiments of the majority population. Muslims must realise that they are in a very delicate situation: only a reasoned and sagacious approach can help them prosper and be at peace with other communities. For a start, they must stop importing rabid Mullahs from Bangladesh into their mosques.

Ghazwa-tul-Badr—the 17th Ramazan: Does It Have Any Contemporary Relevance As Urdu Press Claims Every Year?

New Age Islam Special Correspondent
23 May 2019
Classical Islamic historiographers like Ibn Hisaham and Ibn Ishaq report that the Ghazwa-tul-Badr was the first Islamic military expedition which took place on the 17th Ramzan in 624. After eight years, Muslims achieved the victory in the holist city of Mecca during Ramazan.

On Ghazwatul Badr, social media campaigns, mostly in Urdu, are underfoot to promote a willful misinterpretation of the Islamic event in the Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups.
But this occasion is marked with a wilful misinterpretation of Islamic history which seeks to launch jihadist attacks during Ramazan in many parts of the world, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir. Today, on the 17th day of Ramazan the first Islamic battle— Ghazwa-tul-Badr also known as Jang-e-Badr in the Indian subcontinent—was orchestrated with the win of the Prophet (pbuh) and his Companions against the pagans of Makkah. But surprisingly, it is treated by the extremist and separatist groups in J&K as a call to arms and not mercy as was ultimately intended in the event.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, while felicitating Kashmiri Muslims on the holy occasion of Ramazan, said that the month is not only an exercise for fasting and worship(Ibadat) but also for an overall social wellbeing of society. He further said: “If fasting, Taraawih, charity, Qur’an recitation and other extra [Nafil] Ibadat fails in Ramazan, to hammer our conscious to the realization of Haq (truth) and Batil (falsehood), then this holy month can give us nothing except fifteen hours long pause of hunger. It will fail to enlighten our dark days”.
Worryingly enough, the twisted sermons on the sacredness of Ramazan with a militarized underpinning are conducive to confrontational attitudes, supplemented by the religious ignorance of the separatist Kashmiri leaders of the older generation. They have put such a poisonous seed in the minds of the youth that they continue to live in an adversarial relationship with their own nation and the people. Even the rich syncretic religious traditions of peaceful coexistence in the Kashmir Valley are on the rampage, thanks to the concerted efforts of the Salafist and Jamat-e-Islami networks.
Falsely contrasting the situation of Muslims in India with the oppression meted out to the holy Prophet and his companions in Makkah, Geelani says:
“Pathetic and miserable condition of Muslim Ummah is not only painful but thought provoking as well. Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is also in the ruins and presents a devastated look, disturbing and panicking our new generation. We as a nation are drifting away from our source of Hidayah, which has deprived us from the sense of differentiating between Haq and Batil (right and wrong).
First, the clarification must be made about the oppressive pagans or the Quraish tribe in Makkah. They historically wronged and harshly tortured the Prophet (pbuh) along with his followers, denying them the basic human rights of freedom of life and faith and inflicted great injustice upon them. But the believers in the Prophet (pbuh) persisted and won against all odds. This is where the significance of the 17th day of Ramzan lies, as it also marks the historic and epoch-making conquest of Makkah known as “Fath-e-Makkah” in the Islamic history. This is one of the most sacred days and events of the entire Islamic calendar like the Shab-e-Qadr (Night of Power).
But the twisted interpretation of this historic event was not so popular among Indian Muslims unless it was promulgated in a wave of Islamic messages spread across social media. They began to preach an ‘emulation ‘of the historic victory that the Prophet’s companions achieved in the battle of Badr and thus, they popularized the term ‘Youm-e-Badr’ (the day of Badr) in Jammu & Kashmir.
The event of Badr is actually misconstrued and twisted by the self-styled Islamic ideologues like Geelani with an aim to provoke Muslims to act in vengeance against their supposed enemies. The mainstream Muslims particularly those in Jammu and Kashmir have to remind themselves of the true Islamic ideal of Marhama (mercy) in place of Malhama (retaliation or war). They must recall that having achieved a crowning victory over the oppressive Quraish, a few Companions, overjoyed with the victory, loudly said: “Al-Yum YumulMalhama” (Today is the day of retaliation). But this proclamation was strongly rejected by the Prophet of mercy. He rather said: “La al-YaumYaumulMarhamah” (No, today is the day of compassion).
But tragically, some warmongers in Jammu & Kashmir choose to celebrate the Badr day as an occasion of peddling terror. They particularly engage in south Kashmir to celebrate the ‘anniversary of Ghazwa-e-Badr’ with ghastly terror attacks, as Shakeel Shamsi, a veteran Urdu journalist noted in an editorial in the daily Inquilab. But on the other hand, some semi-literate and gullible Urdu editors like Roznama Sahafat regularly carry sycophantic articles on the ‘contemporary relevance ‘of the Ghazwa-e-Badr. Shockingly, in many Pakistani Urdu newspapers such as Nawa-e-Waqt of Lahore and websites like Daily Urdu Point and the official website of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, the theological justifications for striking terror on the occasion of Ghazwa-e-Badr are routinely put up.
In Kashmir, this peculiar form of jihadist atrocity is not an isolated phenomenon. Historically, the valley witnessed vicious attacks around Ramzan in the 90s as well as in the early 2000s. Former BBC correspondent, Yusuf Jameel, who covered Kashmir’s armed militancy in the nineties, recounted how they stood out as the “bloodiest” in terms of the militant attacks in Kashmir. “The scale of attacks back in the ’90s was much greater. There were a number of incidents during the nineties on a given day. The scale was much larger than this”, he said.
Scores of innocent people bear the brunt of these terror attacks and many government troops and cops are shot dead. This is how the Ghazwa-e-Badr anniversary is marked every year with obnoxious actions and extremist designs not only in Jammu & Kashmir but also in other parts of the world. In fact, the ISIS also celebrated the event of Ghazwa-tul-Badr on every 17th day of Ramzan in its previously occupied territories in Raqqa and Mosul. According to Kurdish news source Rudaw, the ISIS celebrated the 17th Ramzan, while at the same time it discredited other Islamic festivals including the two biggest Islamic occasions—Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. ISIS clerics asked the residents of their occupied lands to shun the Eid celebration as it never existed during the Prophetic era.
According to the leading radical Islamist, Abu Mus’ab Zarqawi, the military expeditions of the Islamist fighters on the day of Ghazwa-tul-Badr or 17th Ramzan is attributed with divine intervention. An ISIS spokesman, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani urged his worldwide sympathisers and loyalists to systematically launch attacks during the holy month of Ramzan. He reportedly said: "Ramadan, the month of conquest and jihad. Be prepared to make it a month of calamity everywhere for the non-believers ...”
Further to the point, the ISIS jihadists chose this auspicious month to further their nefarious designs in Orlando (Florida), Istanbul (Turkey) and Dhaka (Bangladesh). From Florida, Istanbul, Dhaka, London, Baghdad, Java, Indonesia, to Manchester and Tehran, most ISIS terror attacks were orchestrated very particularly during the final days of Ramazan.
As we are winding down to the end of Ramazan, a note of caution is seriously required, particularly in the context of Jammu & Kashmir. As the jihadists try to mark it as ‘a month of calamity’, the mainstream Muslims must not forget: When the Sahaba said: “Al-YumuYumulMalhama” (today is the day of retaliation), the Prophet (pbuh) strongly rebutted: “La, Al-YaumuYaumulMarhama” (No, today is the day of mercy).

A Neo-Salafi view of Shirk as an Unforgivable Sin: In Salafi worldview, Hadith Writers from Persian Empire Secretly Deviated Muslims from the Quran

By Irshad Mahmood, New Age Islam
24 May 2019
Cause and Effects are interrelated. What you plant now, you will harvest later. Vast Majority of Ummah is indulged in falsehood which has no link to the Quran. Why Allah’s anger is on Ummat-e-Ibrahim for Centuries? Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, (Ref: Al_Quran_004.116). Allah never destroys any nation while its people were unaware, but by named Muslims are aware of it from the Quran so paying more prices on NOT practicing the Quran and becoming Hypocrites and Mushriks, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.085, 006.131, 042.021-022). Arab Countries were badly destroyed and none of them have power to defend themselves. Reading the Quran but practicing something else is hypocrisy and SHIRK. Allah’s help may not come because of committing SHIRK. None argue concerning the revelations (Ayaat) of Allah but those who Disbelieves ..., (Al_Quran_040.004).
Fatimid Caliphate was a Shia Islamic caliphate ruled large Muslim Populations from 909 - 1171. Spread Hearsay to Deviate Ummah from the Quran. Started Al-Azhar University in the name of Fatima tuz Zahra (RA) from Cairo in Egypt for their Hypocritic Mission. In around 1164, Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi lead his army with his uncle Shirkuh a General of Zengid army, who later concurred Fatmid Caliphate but FAILED to do Total 100% Cleanups to our beliefs.
We must refrain from all kinds of hearsay to avoid Shirks and we must take guidance from the Quran alone and build more Quranic Educational Centers to explain the Quran alone. All Hadeeth writers were from Persian Empire who secretly deviated Muslims from the Quran. Promoters of Hadeeth are Deniers of the Quran. We must ponder on the Quran & make sure to test each and every Hadeeth. We must find the Roots of all Kinds of Shirk.  … The command rests with none but Allah …, (Ref: Al_Quran_006.057).
Do You Have Certificate from Allah for Wrong Doing?
Have We sent down to them any authority which speaks in favor of what they associate with Him, (Ref: Al_Quran_030.035)?
All Kinds of Astrologer or Fortuneteller or Palmistry are SHIRK: Finding Fate or Believing on by Wearing Rings or thread etc., will Change Ones Fate is Shirk:
O you who believe! Strong Drink (Intoxicants), gambling, idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan’s handiwork. Leave it aside in order that you may succeed, (Ref: Al_Quran_005.090).
Say (O Muhammad (Peace-Be-Upon-Him), to the disbelievers): I say not unto you (that) I possess the treasures of Allah, nor that I have knowledge of the Unseen; and I say not unto you: Lo! I am an angel. I follow only that which is inspired in me. Say: Are the blind man and the seer equal? Will you not then take thought, (Ref: Al_Quran_006.050)?
Say (O Muhammad (Peace-Be-Upon-Him): I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah wills. If I had knowledge of the Unseen, I should have multiplied all good and no evil should have touched me: I am but a Warner, and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have Faith, (Ref: Al_Quran_007.188).
Then, when We decreed (Solomon’s Peace-Be-Upon-Him) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the Jinns saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would Not have tarried in the humiliating Penalty (of their Task), (Ref: Al_Quran_034.014).
Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (Alone). It is He Who knows rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does anyone (including Messengers) know what it is that he will earn on tomorrow: nor does anyone (including Messengers) know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things), (Ref: Al_Quran_031.034).
Men ask you (O Muhammad PBUH) concerning the Hour: say, The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone): and what will make thee understand? Perchance the Hour is nigh, (Ref: Al_Quran_033.063).
Dividing into Sects is SHIRK:
As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no part in them in the least: their affair is with God: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did, (Ref: Al_Quran_006.159).
Cherry Picking Or Following Own Wish Is Shirk: Iblees (Shaitaan) Was The First One Who Committed Cherry Picking Shirk:
Have you seen him who chooses for his god his own lust (wish)? Would you then be guardian over him? Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like a cattle, no, but are more worse! (Ref: Al_Quran_025.043-044).
Have you then considered him who takes his low desire for his god, and Allah has made him err having knowledge and has set a seal upon his ear and his heart and put a covering upon his eye. Who can then guide him after Allah? Will you not then be mindful, (Ref: Al_Quran_045.023)?
These are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! Or shall man have what he wishes? But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong, (Ref: Al_Quran_053.023-025).
Punishment For Those Who Commit Cherry Picking Or Following Own Wish:
Yet, here you are, slaying one another and driving some of your own people from their homelands, aiding one another against them, committing sin and aggression; but if they came to you as captives, you would ransom them. Surely their very expulsion was unlawful for you. Do you believe in one part of the Book and deny another part of it? Those of you who act thus shall be rewarded with disgrace in this world and with a severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection. God is never unaware of what you do, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.085).
Grave Worshiping is Shirk:
You cannot make the dead hear, nor even make the deaf hear the Appeal once they have turned their backs on it, (Ref: Al_Quran_030.052).
If you pray unto them they hear you not your prayer, and if they heard they could not grant it you. On the Day of Resurrection they will disown association with you. None can inform you like Him Who is Aware, (Ref: Al_Quran_035.014).
Mixing Hearsay (Hadeeth Bukhari Muslims Etc.) Along With the Quran is Shirk:
Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being smitten with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter, and what is sacrificed on stones set up (for idols) and that you divide by the arrows; that is a transgression. This day have those who disbelieve despaired of your religion, so fear them not, and fear Me. This day have I perfected for you your religion (100%) and completed My favor (100%) on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful, (Ref: Al_Quran_005.003).
Say: I am commanded that I should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, (Ref: Al_Quran_039.011).
They were commanded only to worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, to be sincere in their faith, to pray regularly; and to give alms, for that is the right religion, (Ref: Al_Quran_098.005).
When something is perfected & completed by Allah means there is nothing to add or subtract, PERIOD. Any book including books of Hadeeth NOT existed during the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) don’t deserved to be called as part of DEEN. Be Quranic Muslim and apply its wisdom in today’s time to succeed.
Fatimid Caliphate was a Shia Islamic caliphate ruled large Muslim Populations from 909 - 1171. Spread Hearsay to Deviate Ummah from the Quran. We MUST refrain from all kinds of hearsay to avoid SHIRKS and MUST take guidance from the Quran alone and build more Quranic Educational Centers to explain the Quran alone. Making Intercessors (Shafaat) With Allah Is SHIRK:
And they serve beside Allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say: These are our intercessors (Shafaat) with Allah. Say: Do you (presume to) inform Allah of what He knows not in the heavens and the earth? Glory be to Him, and supremely exalted is He above what they set up (with Him), (Ref: Al_Quran_010.018).
That day intercession (Shafaat) will not benefit for (anyone) except whom the most Gracious permitted for him and He is pleased a saying for him, (Ref: Al_Quran_020.109).
They do not possess the intercession (Shafaat) except who took a covenant near the most Gracious, (Ref: Al_Quran_019.087).
And those whom they call from other than Him, do not possess the intercession (Shafaat) except who witnessed with the truth and they know, (Ref: Al_Quran_043.086).
Say, for Allah is the intercession (Shafaat) all together. The kingdom of the skies and the earth is for Him. Then you will return towards Him, (Ref: Al_Quran_039.044).
Believing Jesus (PBUH) Died For Our Sins Is SHIRK:
What messages Christians are passing to those who don’t believe with this ideology other than “all the criminals join together and find an innocent and punish this innocent” BUT declare around the world that that person die for their sins and now they will go to heaven, is totally unjust.
And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the messenger of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure, (Ref: Al_Quran_004.157).
Believing Jesus (PBUH) as GOD is Shirk:
They say, The Most Gracious One (Allah/God) has begotten a son. Certainly, you have uttered a monstrous falsehood. The heavens might well-nigh burst thereat, and the earth break asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces, because they ascribe a son to the Most Gracious One (Allah/God). And it is not worthy of the Most Beneficent Allah/God that He should take (to Himself) a son, (Ref: Al_Quran_019.088-092).
Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely God is the Christ the son of Marium; and the Messiah said: O Children of Israel! Serve Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Surely whoever associates (others) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden to him the garden, and his abode is the fire; and there shall be no helpers for the unjust, (Ref: Al_Quran_005.072).
Believing Jesus (PBUH) As Three In One Of GOD Is Shirk:
Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah is the third (person) of the three; and there is no god but the one Allah, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them, who disbelieve, (Ref: Al_Quran_005.073).
Allah is JUST:
Believing on Jesus (PBUH) died for our sins is UNJUST and is like all criminals join together and punish one innocent and believing that he died for our sins is UNJUST, while Allah is true JUST.
Surely Allah does not do injustice to the weight of an atom, and if it is a good deed He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward, (Ref: Al_Quran_004.040).
Surely Allah does not do any injustice to human, but human are unjust to themselves, (Ref: Al_Quran_010.044).
This is a people that have passed away; they shall have what they earned and you shall have what you earn, and you shall not be called upon to answer for what they did, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.141).
No burden-bearer shall bear burden of another, and if some over-laden soul should call out for someone else to carry his load, not the least portion of it will be borne for him, even though he were a near relative. You can only warn those who fear their Lord in the unseen, and pray regularly. Anyone who purifies himself will benefit greatly from doing so. To God all shall return, (Ref: Al_Quran_035.018).
Priesthood or Priest Worshiping is SHIRK:
They have taken their learned men and their monks (Ulema and Mashaikh) for their lords besides God. So have they taken the Messiah, son of Mary, although they were commanded to worship only the One God. There is no deity but He. He is far above whatever they set up as His partners! (Ref: Al_Quran_009.031).
Planets (Sun or Moon) Worshiping is SHIRK:
And among His signs are the night and the day and the sun and the moon; do not prostrate to the sun nor to the moon; and prostrate to Allah Who created them, if Him it is that you serve, (Ref: Al_Quran_041.037).
Calling others for Help besides Allah is SHIRK: Making Lords/Saviors Other than Allah which includes Prophets or Messengers or any other things:
Your Lord has said, Call on Me, and I will answer your prayers. But those who are too arrogant to worship Me will certainly enter Hell, in disgrace, (Ref: Al_Quran_040.060).
Then after sorrow He sent down security upon you, a calm coming upon a party of you, and (there was) another party whom their own souls had rendered anxious; they entertained about Allah thoughts of ignorance quite unjustly, saying: We have no hand in the affair. Say: Surely the affair is wholly (in the hands) of Allah. They conceal within their souls what they would not reveal to you. They say: Had we any hand in the affair, we would not have been slain here. Say: Had you remained in your houses, those for whom slaughter was ordained would certainly have gone forth to the places where they would be slain, and that Allah might test what was in your breasts and that He might purge what was in your hearts; and Allah knows what is in the breasts, (Ref: Al_Quran_003.154).
He makes the night pass into the day and He makes the day pass into the night. He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running for an appointed term. Such is God, your Lord: His is the kingdom. Those whom you invoke besides Him do not own so much as the skin of a date stone, (Ref: Al_Quran_035.013).
O men! It is you who stand in need of God. God is self-sufficient, and praiseworthy, (Ref: Al_Quran_035.015).
Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He creates what He pleases; He grants to whom He pleases daughters and grants to whom He pleases sons. Or He makes them of both sorts, male and female; and He makes whom He pleases barren; surely He is the Knowing, the Powerful, (Ref: Al_Quran_042.049-050).
O you who believe! Enter into Islam whole-heartedly; and follow NOT the footsteps of the Devil/Satan one; surely he is your an open enemy, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.208).
He is the living (One): There is no god but He: Call upon Him giving Him sincere devotion. Praise be to Allah Lord of the Worlds!  Say: "I have been forbidden to invoke those whom you invoke besides Allah seeing that the Clear Signs have come to me from my Lord: and I have been commanded to bow (in Islam) to the Lord of the Worlds", (Ref: Al_Quran_040.065-066).
Yet there are some who set up equals with God and adore them with the adoration due to God, but those who believe love God most. If only the wrongdoers could see as they will see when they face the punishment that all power belongs to God, and that God is severe in punishment, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.165).
Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and forgives what is besides that to whomsoever He pleases; and whoever associates anything with Allah, he devises indeed a great sin, (Ref: Al_Quran_004.048).
Surely Allah does not forgive that anything (Animals or Books or People or Planets or any other items) associated with Him. He forgives whoever He will for anything other than that. Whoever ascribes partners to God has strayed far indeed, (Ref: Al_Quran_004.116).
Say, Do you worship something other than God, that has no power to do you harm or good? God alone is the All Hearing and All Knowing, (Ref: Al_Quran_005.076).
Those whom you call on besides God are but creatures like yourselves. Call upon them, then, and let them respond to you, if what you say is true, (Ref: Al_Quran_007.194).
And (as for) those who take guardians/protectors besides Him, Allah watches over them, and you have not charge over them, (Ref: Al_Quran_042.006).
Have they taken for themselves protectors other than Him? But it is God who is the real Protector. He resurrects the dead, and He has power over all things, (Ref: Al_Quran_042.009).
Do they have associate God's who have laid down for them a religion without the permission of Allah? Had it not been for God's decree on the final Judgment, the matter would have been decided between them. Surely the wrongdoers shall have a painful punishment, (Ref: Al_Quran_042.021).
And then they will be asked, Where are those whom you associated besides Allah? They shall say: They are gone away from us, nay, we used not to call upon anything before. Thus does Allah confound the unbelievers. That is because you exulted in the land unjustly and because you behaved insolently. Enter the gates of hell to abide therein, evil then is the abode of the proud, (Ref: Al_Quran_040.073-076).
What! do then those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants to be guardians besides Me? Surely We have prepared hell for the entertainment of the unbelievers, (Ref: Al_Quran_018.102).
And whoever invokes with Allah another god-- he has no proof of this-- his reckoning is only with his Lord; surely the unbelievers shall not be successful, (Ref: Al_Quran_023.117).
Yet they have taken, besides Him, deities who create nothing and are themselves created, and who have no power to harm, or benefit themselves and who control neither death, nor life, nor resurrection, (Ref: Al_Quran_025.003).
And (We sent) Ibrahim, when he said to his people: Serve Allah and be careful of (your duty to) Him; this is best for you, if you did but know. You only worship idols besides Allah and you create a lie surely they whom you serve besides Allah do not control for you any sustenance, therefore seek the sustenance from Allah and serve Him and be grateful to Him; to Him you shall be brought back, (Ref: Al_Quran_029.016-017).
Those who take protectors other than God can be compared to the spider which builds itself a cobweb, but the frailest of all structures is the house of the spider, if they but knew it, (Ref: Al_Quran_029.041).
That (shall be so); and whoever respects the sacred ordinances of Allah, it is better for him with his Lord; and the cattle are made lawful for you, except that which is recited to you, therefore avoid the uncleanness of the idols and avoid false words, being upright for Allah, not associating aught with Him and whoever associates (others) with Allah, it is as though he had fallen from on high, then the birds snatch him away or the wind carries him off to a far-distant place, (Ref: Al_Quran_022.030-031).
It is We who sent down the Book to you [Prophet] with the Truth, so worship God with your total devotion. It is to Allah alone that sincere obedience is due. And those who take other guardians besides Him say, We serve them only that they may bring us nearer to God. Surely, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. God does not guide anyone who is bent on lying and is a disbelieving liar, (Ref: Al_Quran_039.002-003).
Say, Ignorant men! Would you bid me worship someone other than God? It has already been revealed to you and to those who have gone before you that if you ascribe any partner to God, all your works will come to nothing, and you will surely be among the losers, (Ref: Al_Quran_039.064-065).
Those who never invoke any other deity besides God, nor take a life which God has made sacred, except with the right to do so, nor commit adultery. Anyone who does that shall face punishment. The punishment shall be doubled to him on the day of resurrection, and he shall abide therein in abasement. Except him who repents and believes and does a good deed; so these are they of whom Allah changes the evil deeds to good ones; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful, (Ref: Al_Quran_025.068-070).
And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers', (Ref: Al_Quran_010.106).
And if Allah should touch you with adversity (hardship), there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good – then He is over all things competent, (Ref: Al_Quran_006.017).
Say, "Shall we invoke instead of Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us and be turned back on our heels after Allah has guided us, (Ref: Al_Quran_006,071)?
Say, "Then who could prevent Allah at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit, (Ref: Al_Quran_048.011)?
Say, "I possess not for myself any harm or benefit except what Allah should will, (Ref: Al_Quran_010.049).
Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm", (Ref: Al_Quran_013.016)?
He(Ibrahim) said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? Or do they benefit you, or do they harm", (Ref: Al_Quran_026.072-073)?
Not being Grateful to Allah is SHIRK:
And certainly We gave wisdom to Luqman, saying: Be grateful to Allah. And whoever is grateful, he is only grateful for his own soul; and whoever is ungrateful, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, Praised, (Ref: Al_Quran_031.012).
Mixing up their faith is Shirk: Do NOT Mix Hearsay or Hadeeth in DEEN:
Those who believe and do not mix up their faith with iniquity, those are they who shall have the security and they are those who go aright, (Ref: Al_Quran_006.082).
So when they ride in the ships they call upon Allah, being sincerely obedient to Him, but when He brings them safe to the land, lo! they associate others (with Him), (Ref: Al_Quran_029.065).
Shortcut Islam is Shirk:
Many of by named Muslims indulge into many Shortcuts which is clearly Shirk and also it is Top Killer Muslims as well. e.g., Just reciting few verses or Surahs or making Taveez of it, or by performing few acts of ritual worships and your problem will be solved. Many of them are indulge in many falsehoods for which they have no links to the Quran. Their priorities MUST be to save humanity by all means. Arabs are first in line, perhaps it is because of the Quran is in their language and they are not following the Quran in spirit. Later other by named Muslims may suffer since now in almost every language translation of the Quran is available.
Demands of Quran and follow it in spirit:
You Must Believe in the Quran otherwise you are welcoming Curse of Allah;
You Must Read the Quran with understanding/translation otherwise you are welcoming Curse of Allah;
You Must Understand the Quran otherwise you are welcoming Curse of Allah;
You Must Practically Act upon Teachings of the Quran in spirit otherwise you are welcoming Curse of Allah;
You Must Convey the Messages of the Quran to others otherwise you are welcoming Curse of Allah;
The Best Definition of God:
Say: He, Allah, is One. Allah is He on Whom all depend. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like Him (UNIQUE), (Ref: Al_Quran_112.001-004).
There is no god except Allah The Living, the ever Established, no slumber / drowsiness can seize Him, nor sleep. Whatever is in the skies and in the earth is for Him. Who is there that can intercede (Shafaat) in His presence except with His permission. He knows what is in front of them and behind them. And nor shall they encompass of His knowledge except with what He wills. His throne extends over the skies and the earth and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving both of them, And He is the High, the Supreme, (Ref: Al_Quran_002.255).
Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth; a likeness of His light is as a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, (and) the glass is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not-- light upon light-- Allah guides to His light whom He pleases, and Allah sets forth parables for men, and Allah is Cognizant of all things, (Ref: Ref: Al_Quran_024:035).
Hidden Shirk Angering Allah:
Look at present situation of Ummah, being butchered all over the world from north to south and from east to west. This Ummah is involved in many Shirk and Biddah.
Question rises, Why are they being butchered for centuries? One of the main reason is deviated from the Quran and doing Shirk, due to which Allah is NOT listening to our Duaas during all our worships and this is a Curse from Allah.
For Example: As per Quran Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went on Miraj. BUT twisted story was added in Hadeeth some 200 years later to deviate Ummah. Jewish Prophet Musa (PBUH) told Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) again and again to go back to reduced Salaat/Prayers from 50 time to 5 times is Crystal Clear Shirk, since it is elevating Jewish Prophet Musa (PBUH) over Allah. Allah has created human and He knows very well what He has created and don’t put more burden on anyone than they can afford. Going on Your Own Wish is MOST Dangerous Shirk.
As per Quran Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cannot make listen to those who are buried in the Grave which includes from Prophet Adam till Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and NON of them know when will they be resurrected again.
Believing or Practicing or Supporting anything which Contradicts the Quran is SHIRK.  Elevating any animals including Cows, Dagon, Hanuman, Monkey, Pantheon, Snakes etc. near or close to Allah/God is SHIRK. Elevating/Promoting any BOOKS including all Books of Hadeeth near or close to the Quran is SHIRK. Elevating anyone including Prophets/Messengers or Auliyaas or Sheikh/Scholars etc. near or close to Allah/God is SHIRK. Elevating any Planets including Earth or Mars or Moon or Sun or Venus etc. near or close to Allah/God is SHIRK. Elevating anything near or close to Allah/God is SHIRK. False Accusations on Allah is SHIRK. Believing on Jesus/Isaa (PBUH) is Alive is SHIRK. Mixing the Quran with Sunnah is SHIRK. Also NOT Uplifting or NOT Promoting the Quran is SHIRK, since you might be giving more importance to other things over promoting the Quran.
Leave all Kinds of SHIRKS to SUCCEED. Return to the Quran 100% otherwise Curse of Allah may NOT be lifted.
All Masjids MUST teach Quranic Arabic Language to those who don’t understand Quran Arabic Language.
If Quran Cannot Convince You Nothing Will, (Ref: Al_Quran_004:087, 007:185, 039:023, 052:033-034, 053:056-059, 056:075-082, 068:044, 077:050).

‘We Are Arriving In Bangladesh And Bengal Soon’ Says A Poster Of The ISIS In Bengali; Those Who Glorified The ISIS In 2014 Have Now Gone Underground Black-Faced

New Age Islam Edit Desk
29 April 2019
Two weeks after the ISIS conducted  fatal attacks in Sri Lanka killing more than three hundred Christians and Hindus, a poster in Bengali saying “We are coming, Insha’Allah” (Shigroi Aschee Inshallah) on a telegram channel with logo of Al Mursalat has appeared sending a wave of panic among the people of Bangladesh and West Bengal of India. Intelligence agencies of the state and the country have taken the poster seriously and have sounded an alert. Security has been beefed up in public places including Metro stations in Kolkata. According to reports, the ISIS has a presence in Bangladesh with the support of JMB (Jamiat-e- Mujahideen Bangladesh).
The terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka suggest a shift in the modus operandi of the ISIS after its debacle in Syria and Iraq. It has now shrugged off its mask of the flag bearers of Islamic Caliphate with which it fooled the Muslims of the world and won the sympathy of a section of gullible Muslims and so-called Islamic scholars. Now they have come up with the real face as a terrorist organization. Now they taken to the path of Al Qaida, Taliban, Al Shabab and Boko Haram conducting cowardly attacks on unsuspecting innocent people.
This development also makes the Urdu press and the religious organizations who had supported and glorified the ISIS as the upholders of Islam and flag bearers of Islamic Caliphate responsible for what the Muslims of Bangladesh and West Bengal in particular and of India in general are going to face. The ISIS has now put up the face of  a terrorist organization without any clear ideology. They just want to harm Muslims and tarnish the image of Islam and destroy the peace of the state where Muslims live in a relatively peaceful atmosphere wielding political power.
After the ISIS attack in Sri Lanka and the release of the poster in Bengali, the NIA have rounded up some ISIS operatives who were part of ISIS module in Kerala. This is an indication of the things to come. A section of our religious leadership glorified the ISIS and many Muslim youth were misled by their propaganda and joined the terrorist organization. Dozens of Muslim youth from India also were influenced by their propaganda and joined the ISIS, though some of them later realized the mistake returned to India but by the then it was too late and the damage was done. After ISIS conducted the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka and released a poster in Bengali announcing their arrival in either Bangladesh or West Bengal, these Islamic organizations and scholars are silent. Earlier it was Al Qaida and Taliban, now it is the ISIS.  Muslims are fooled again and again by these militant organizations in the name of Caliphate or Islamic State.

Tahreef Fil Quran: How Real Are Questions of Corruption, Distortion, Deletion, Overinclusion or Abrogation in Quran

By Sultan Shahin, Founding Editor, New Age Islam
26 April 2019
Dear Ghulam Mohiyuddin Saheb,
A rather acrimonious debate has been going on for some time between you and Naseer Ahmad Saheb on your expression of a feeling that some verses, inconvenient to a modern rational mind, have probably been added in Quran and Muslims should disregard them. Naseer Saheb probably wants you to accept that this makes you an apostate. However, if apostasy were to be bestowed so liberally hardly any thinking Muslim would remain a Muslim.
This debate on distortions in Quran is not new. The controversy over tahreeff il Quran, deletions, additions, a variety of changes in the wordings or vowels of words used in of Quran, etc has raged in the past 1400 years of Islam. Even a brief glance at Allama Jalaluddin Suyuti’s authoritative book on the subject al-Itqan fi Uloom al-Quran, now easily available on the internet, will reveal that there is no distortion that has not been claimed, suggested and believed in by Muslims through the ages, beginning with the companions of the Prophet who had heard Quran from the Prophet himself and recorded its verses in their memory as well in writing then and there.
However, it is also necessary to underline that by and large there is not much of a controversy among Muslims about verses having been planted in the Holy Quran by later Muslims to serve their own ends. In general, all Muslims believe in all of Quran being the word of God as revealed through Prophet Mohammad (saw). If there is a controversy it is generated by some Hadith narrations that some verses have been left out or forgotten or caused by God to be forgotten. Surah Ahzab, for instance, is reported to have been originally double or triple its present size of 73 verses. Some Sahaba (companions of the Prophet) remember it as being almost the same size as Surah Baqra (286 verses). There is also a report of a whole Surah, as long and as severe as Surah Bara’at (better known as Surah Taubah) which has 129 verses having disappeared. One report claims that an object on which a Quranic verse about rajm(stoning to death) of adulterers was written was eaten up by a goat.

Throughout the ages some Muslims have found themselves at a loss to explain the presence of some verses as exhortations from God. As for war verses, not all of them are problematic. At one-point Muslims were allowed to defend themselves as they should have been. Even today defence is allowed, not only to established governments but even to individuals and families in certain situations.  However, some verses do pose questions for Muslims living in the 21st century. For instance, verse 2-193 says:
“Fight them until there is no [more] fitnah and [until] worship is for Allah. But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.”
Here there can be no objection to the portion: “But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors,” as it is clear that it is in the context of aggression and oppression which one has to fight in any age. However, the first portion is: “Fight them until there is no [more] fitnah and [until] worship is for Allah.” This becomes problematic, particularly as fitnah is translated by most acknowledged translators as “shirk” (polytheism, but in Prophet’s Mecca basically meant idol worship).  Then “and [until] worship is for Allah,” seems to justify the translation of fitnah as shirk, and thus goes against a moderate Muslim’s mainstay “la ikraha fid Deen (Let there be on compulsion in religion, لاَ إِكْرَاهَ فِى الدِّينِ.  2-256)” and verse 18:29 wa man shaa’afalyomin, wamansha’afalyakfur. فَمَنۡ شَآءَ فَلۡيُؤۡمِنۡ وَّمَنۡ شَآءَ فَلۡيَكۡفُرۡ (“let him who please believe and let him who please disbelieve.”)
Then, of course, there are verses from Surah Tauba (9:5, 9:29, etc) that cause disquiet in the moderate Muslim mind. This sense of foreboding is particularly enhanced by a strong and repeatedly expressed opinion by classical Islamic theologians, followed generally by ulema of all sects, that peaceful and pluralistic verses from early Meccan Islam have all been abrogated by the so-called sword verse (9:5) alone.
But none of this has led to a discrediting of these verses as word of God. No one has said that these verses have been planted in Quran.  Indeed, Hadith was created as a parallel scripture, and given in practice even greater importance than Quran in decades when virtual enemies of Islam were ruling the land of Islam in the name of Islam, mainly because it was not possible to plant things in Quran. So those who had subverted the Islamic democratic system and established monarchy used hadith narrations to plant new ideas. Muslims had written Quran down and also memorised it almost as soon as verses were revealed. Hadith started growing in a natural manner, as people recalled what the Prophet had told them all these years, but this was also used by the dictatorial kings to plant new ideas more suitable to their politics.
Different Muslims, uncomfortable with these violent verses in Quran have tried different ways of dealing with them. Some have rejected Islam as a divine religion and become and are now becoming in larger numbers ex-Muslims. Some have taken the instructions to heart and adopted radical extremism and terrorism, as a way of quick transition to Heaven through martyrdom. Others engage in what is called taaweelat or allegorical interpretations. Some Muslims try to change the very meaning of Arabic words used in these verses and say that Arabs have not understood Arabic of the Quran in all these centuries. The consensus theology is that it is every Muslim’s religious duty to help Islam conquer the world and extirpate all other religions, including those that were brought by previous prophets in whom all Muslims must believe to be a Muslim. Most mainstream Muslims accept the consensus theology but do nothing about achieving this religious goal. However, they do applaud, if not openly, at last in their hearts, when someone appears to be doing something about it.
You are alone Ghulam Mohiyuddin Saheb in feeling that these verses have been probably planted in Quran at some point. You use the expression “overinclusion while compiling.” The problem is GM Saheb, that Quran was revealed in the glare of history. Verses used to be revealed in the presence of katibs, usually several, and other sahaba (companions) of the prophet. They were almost immediately written down and memorised. Also, the verses in question are in the distinctive style of the Quran. However, you are not alone in feeling a disquiet about these and some other verses. There are many other Muslims who do not want to conquer the world and remove all other religions. Moreover, you are not alone in not being satisfied with all the taawilat and interpretations and discovery of new meanings of Arabic words by non-Arabs over 1400 years after they were revealed. Those who say no one has understood the meaning of Quran also claim to believe in Quran’s claim of it being The Clear Book (al-Kitab al-Mubeen).
My own understanding is that we cannot fully comprehend the circumstances in which it had become necessary for God to give these instructions, if we do not fully understand the events happening around us today in this age of communication. Probably half of America still believes that Saddam Hussain possessed weapons of mass destruction and was hands in gloves with Osama bin Laden. So, any claim to understand the circumstances that led to these Quranic revelations one and a half millennia ago will be presumptuous in the extreme. However, as that context is no longer present today and cannot be repeated in future too, so these instructions can no longer apply to us. Let us stop giving a variety of taawilaat and even seeking to understand their purpose. This only leads to further disquiet and newer taawilaat that have no meaning. In fact, there is no particular need for us either to try to fully understand things that happened in the hoary past.
We should focus on the core message of the Quran which is that all religions have been sent by God through a long series of messengers who brought essentially the same message, asking us to remember Him always in gratitude, do good deeds and live in harmony with other creations of God. Hoqooqullah and Hoqoqul-ibad. Let us just stick to that.
If illiterate and even ignorant Arab Bedouins, living in desert villages 1400 years ago, could understand Quran, we too should be able to understand it. Also, any eternal message is of necessity understood by different people of different intellectual levels and different eras differently. No one should be branded an apostate for doing that until he or she himself or herself declares that he has left Islam. We belong to a civilisation which did not brand apostate even someone who said:
'Mīr' Ke dīn-O-Mazhab ko Ab Pūchhte kyā Ho Un Ne To
Qashqa Khīñchā Dair Meñ Baithā Kab Kā Tark Islām Kiyā
(What can I tell you about Mir’s faith or belief? A tilak on his forehead in a temple he resides, having abandoned Islam long ago).

Islamic Shariat and the Individual Muslim

By Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam
01 May 2019
In the name of bringing back the Islamic Shariat, several groups are actively engaged. The question is which Shariat? There is the stagnant Shariat of the past based on paradigms of the previous scriptures and concocted Ahadith antithetical to the letter and spirit of the Quran. It was this suffocating Shariat that prevented adoption of the printing press by a couple of centuries leaving us far behind Europe. It is the same Shariat that frowned on scientific study and promoted obscurantism. It is this Shariat that invited the wrath of Allah who inflicted colonial rule on us to give us a break from it so that we could rebuild anew. Have we rebuilt anew based on a correct understanding of the Quran dispensing with the paradigms of the previous scriptures and concocted Ahadith? We have not. So, if we are hankering for the same Shariat, is it to invite the wrath of Allah once again and have a foreign rule imposed on us?
The call is made in the name of restoring the ‘Sovereignty of Allah’! Is the sovereignty of Allah subject to us humans proclaiming and establishing it? Allah can any day impose his Will on us and take away from us our freedom and autonomy which He did when he subjected us to colonial rule. Do not fall for such misleading political slogans. Without doubt, we believe in following the Shariat of Allah or the Deen of Allah, but what the Classical Islamic Fiqh teaches us, is a hideous caricature of the Shariat of the Quran.
What does the Shariat or the Deen of Allah mean to us as individuals? It is to follow the commands of Allah in letter and spirit. No matter in which country we live, except perhaps China and Russia, we can practice our religion. As an individual, we need to follow the commands of Allah and do not for example, commit adultery. Establishing the Quranic punishment for adultery is the duty of the State and not of the individual. Even when such laws are established, our religion does not encourage us to bring the guilty to punishment. As a matter of fact, our religion actively discourages us from bearing witness, and punishes the witnesses with 80 stripes if the guilt is not established with four witnesses, even though it cannot be said that those who bore witness were lying. The religion encourages us to correct the wrong doers but not to bring them to punishment. We do not therefore become less Muslim, because the State does not implement the Quranic laws, because even if it did, we will try to correct the wrong doer rather than report to the authorities and bear witness to get the guilty punished. This is however not understood by those who hanker after the Shariat. The first thing that they do to prove that they have established the “Sovereignty of Allah” is to inflict the harsh punishments publicly on a large number of people.  What a hideous version of Islam these tyrants want to install!
It is only when a large majority of Muslims bring the Quranic Shariat in their personal lives that the laws of the State will change. Democracy is the best way, the only way, and indeed the Islamic way to bring about change in a religion that proclaims “let there be no compulsion in religion”. It cannot be imposed through violence by pressure groups capturing political office. Without exception, when they succeed, they impose a tyrannical rule.
The so called Classical Islamic Shariat, is anything but Islamic, and deserved to be uprooted through imposing colonial rule on us. What distinguishes the Quran from all previous scriptures is the overarching rule “let there be no compulsion in religion”. There can therefore be no law or rule forcing a Muslim to pray or fast or for Muslim women to wear hijab or veil or to punish a Muslim from leaving his religion. It is for the individual to decide what he or she will or will not do without impinging on the rights of others or disturbing public order.
The Quranic Shariat Differs From The Classical Shariat On Every Subject. For Example,
1. There is no punishment for homosexuality except strong Social disapproval and punishment only for public acts of indecency.
2. There is no punishment for apostasy. There is no punishment for blasphemy and heresy. There can be a law against disturbing of public order or inciting hatred but not impinging on academic independence or right to criticism.

3. The Divorce process as per the Shariat of the Quran is different from classical Islamic Shariat.

4. Classical Islamic fiq errs in the inheritance related calculations.
5. Classical Islamic fiq errs on female witnessing.
6. The Rules of war are ill-defined in classical Islamic Shariat. There is no duty imposed on the Muslims to subjugate non-Muslims and bring them under Islamic Shariat. Read: The Principles of War from the Quran
7. The relationship with the ‘other’ or the non-Muslim is ill-defined in classical Islamic Shariat.
8. Imposing ‘Jiziya’ on non-Muslims was never a religious requirement even in the Prophet’s times.
What the individual Muslim needs to do is to study the Quran carefully and understand how the bigoted Islamic scholarship has led us into a dead-end street, reject the out-dated Classical Islamic Shariat which is based on concocted ahadith and paradigms of the previous scriptures, and rebuild the Shariat afresh based on an authentic reading of the Quran. This requires the democratic process. The argument of how Islam got established in the past without the democratic process is of no relevance. We do not have in our midst today, a Prophet receiving divine revelations to guide us whom we can unquestioningly follow. We have fallible human beings with a bigoted and tyrannical view of Islam, trying to appropriate to themselves the power and position of a Prophet, and establish their tyrannical rule. Reject these pretenders.
We have the Quran, which is understood differently by different people, and therefore, no single individual, group, or sect, can have the authority to impose its view on the rest. We have no choice but to follow the democratic process. As individuals however, it is our duty to Allah, to read the Quran, understand it, and implement it in our lives in the best manner possible, and also to teach and promote it. We as a people, society, nation, and Ummah can succeed only when we do what we need to do, as an individual first.
