Misunderstandings and Misinterpretations of the Ghazwa-e-Hind Narrative in India
Main Points:
1. Priyank Kanoongo, Chairman of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, has made misleading, inaccurate, and uninformed claims about the Ghazwa-e-Hind narrative.
2. A group of "experts" on Islam, Muslims, and Madrasa-related matters have been developed in India since 2014, spreading false information about Madrasas and Muslim issues.
3. With the current Constitution in place, Ghazwa and Jihad have no place in modern India. If jihad is possible under any circumstances, it can only be carried out by a sovereign state against a country with whom it has no treaty of peace.
4. There has never been a prominent graduate, Aalim, or cleric connected to any reputable Madrasa, especially Darul Uloom Deoband, who has taken part in Ghazwa-e-Hind propaganda.
5. The thoughts and culture of Darul Uloom Deoband undoubtedly have an impact on the country and the world at large, but they have nothing to do with conflict and animosity towards non-Muslims.
-------
A great deal of things come from misunderstanding. If something is removed from its background and context, it loses all meaning. Prophecy is not an indisputable command that must be followed. The Puranic texts, particularly the Bhavishya Puran, are filled with numerous predictions of future events. An instance of this is mentioned in the 'Akbar Baadshah Varnan' chapter of Bhavishya Puran, one of the eighteen Mahapuranas of Hinduism. The chapter describes Akbar as the reincarnation of Mukund Brahmin of the Shankar Acharya gotra, but because of a mistake, he was born as a Muslim in this birth. But since his previous birth had been as a Brahmin, his achievements in his second birth were remarkable. (Bhavishya Purana, Vol. 4, Gita Press, Gorakhpur, pp. 373–374)
The agenda has been created to add complexity to the situation. There is historical evidence of the establishment of Mughal authority in India. When it comes to degree, determination, context, occasion, place, and ranking, the Ghazwa-e-Hind narration is less certain than the usual forecasts made by members of the predominantly Hindu community.
However, there is a regular form of uproar regarding the Ghazwa-e-Hind. The most targeted in this regard is the globally renowned educational institution, Darul Ulum Deoband. There are constant attempts to encircle it and erect roadblocks with a variety of justifications in the process of its development. Those who have no particular role in building India and its future typically carry out this task. The adherents and beneficiaries of Darul Uloom Deoband, in contrast, have been instrumental in the establishment and development of the country. They have never accepted the interpretation and application of the Ghazwa-e-Hind narrative as it is being spread by those who are misinformed about their religion and attempt to mislead other citizens of the country.
Priyank Kanoongo, the Chairman of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, is one example of a person who fits this description. A few days ago, he addressed the attendees and students of a class and made many misleading, inaccurate, and uninformed claims.
It seems from watching the show that Priyank Kanoongo is not even familiar with the fundamentals of madrasas, particularly Darul Uloom Deoband. A group of "experts" on Islam, Muslims, and Madrasa-related matters have been developed in India since 2014. These individuals profit from government subsidies by spreading false information about Madrasas and Muslim issues.
The same commission sent a notice to Darul Uloom Deoband a few days ago regarding Maulana Thanvi's well-known book Bahishti Zewar. However, the truth is that Bahishti Zewar is not taught in Darul Uloom Deoband's curriculum, nor does it contain any information that could mislead students. The commission has now deemed the Darul Uloom Deoband fatwa on the Ghazwa-e-Hind to be anti-national and requested that an FIR be filed against it.
This is undoubtedly impacted by the present communal atmosphere of the country. The Commission has never raised any objections to the substance of works like Satyarth Prakash and those taught at Gurukul. This disparity has very obvious causes. This is evidence enough that the media must pay heed.
The reason Darul Uloom Deoband is in the limelight is also because the person who took the name becomes well-known right away and has the chance to show his performance.
It was possible to inquire about the interpretation and application of Ghazwa-e-Hind, which is mentioned in the fatwa. It is not anything that any Muslim organisation in the world has kept hidden or taken out of the hadith books. This is in contrast to the majority society, where the widely recognised core scriptures have had several Shlokas and Mantras eliminated over the years, along with entire chapters. We also possess a version of the Valmiki Ramayana that has had hundreds of pages cut, along with Lanka Kand and Uttar Kand.
Numerous Ahadith and Siyar literature, such as Nasa'i, Musnad Imam Ahmad, Sunan Saeed bin Mansoor, Mustadrak Hakim, Musnad Bazzaz, Hilyat al-Awaliya 6, Sunan Bayhaqi, Tarikh Baghdad, etc., refer to the Ghazwa-e-Hind narrations. The chain of Hazrat Abu Hurairah and Hazrat Thawban (may Allah be pleased with them) is recorded with these narrations. Narrations can be classified as either weak, Hasan, or Sahih. However, none of the narrations discuss the meaning or goal of the Ghazwa, which could be related to the effort to subjugate non-Muslims or to present-day India.
The first section of Ghazwa has been completed numerous times in the past during various historical periods. The remaining portion will take place close to the Day of Judgement, when Jesus (peace be upon him) will be there, against a group known as the Dajjal and his allies.
With the current Constitution in place, Ghazwa and Jihad have no place in modern India.
If jihad is possible under any circumstances, it can only be carried out by a sovereign state against a country with whom it has no treaty of peace.
Muslims and Hindus are both citizens of the same country, India. Every citizen is bound by the same constitution.
India and other notable countries can communicate with each other through their respective embassies.
Any form of war or jihad is not permitted in such a scenario by Islamic law, international agreements, or legal precedents.
Nevertheless, people who misrepresent the Ghazwa-e-Hind are utterly ignorant of the Islamic teachings on jihad.
Madrasa graduates typically have a reasonable understanding of the Ghazwa-e-Hind's meaning and application.
There has never been a prominent graduate, Aalim, or cleric connected to any reputable Madrasa, especially Darul Uloom Deoband, who has taken part in Ghazwa-e-Hind propaganda. This clarifies everything.
A study and assessment of the narrations about the Ghazwa-e-Hind demonstrate that in the same way that the prophecies of the Bhavishya Purana regarding King Akbar and other figures have been fulfilled in the past, so too have the Hadith's predictions been fulfilled.
It is also important to remember that the Ghazwa region included Syria, Damascus, Khorasan, and Sindh during the time of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). In the same way that the landing site of Hazrat Adam, as reported by Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas, is now outside of modern-day India, so too is the Ghazwa-e-Hind realm.
Madrasas and Ulama of India, especially those who have graduated from Darul Uloom Deoband and are its beneficiaries, have always been loyal to their country. The Muslim community's commitment to and patriotism to their country has never been in doubt. Darul Uloom Deoband has been working to strengthen and broaden this commitment and allegiance.
Thoughts and culture of Darul Uloom Deoband undoubtedly have an impact on the country and the world at large, they have nothing to do with conflict and animosity towards non-Muslims. It seeks to promote reasonable thought and check how religious and ideological practices are applied to the internal issues of Muslim society. Darul Uloom Deoband advocates living in harmony, unity, and peaceful relationships with non-Muslims, particularly Hindus, without harbouring any animosity.
There are several attempts to undermine the excellent religious, social, and public status of Darul Uloom Deoband. It would be appropriate to assemble a team of legal and other experts to handle this. The Ghazwa-e-Hind fatwa is not a single example; rather, it is a collection of elements that are taken out of context and depicted obscenely.
