अमेरिकी रक्षा मंत्री चक हैगल ने साफ़ कर दिया कि उनकी सेना सीरिया पर हमले के लिए तैयार है उन्हें बस ओबामा के हुकुम का इंतज़ार है. यह ब्यान तब आया जब सीरिया में संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ के इंस्पेक्टर प्रतिबंधित गैस के उपयोग की जांच करके अभी वापस लौटे भी नहीं है. समाजवादी होलांदे का फ़्रांस सख्त कदम उठाये जाने के लिए पहले ही कह चुका है, ब्रिटेन के कैमरून युद्ध किस प्रकार का होना चाहिए इस प्रश्न पर जनतंत्र का उपयोग करते हुए संसद का अधिवेशन बुला रहे है. अरब लीग ने सत्यापित कर दिया कि सीरिया की  असद हकुमत द्वारा  गैस हथियार इस्तेमाल हुए है लेकिन इसके खिलाफ कार्यवाही संयुक्त राष्ट्र करे. असद सरकार के विरुद्ध इस्लामी फासीवादी लड़ाकुओ को पिछले एक साल से मदद कर रहे सऊदी, क़तर, अमीरात जैसी अमेरिकी पिछलग्गु राजशाहियां खुल्ल्मखुल्लाह सामने आने के बजाये संयुक्त राष्ट्र की कार्यवाही का भुगतान करने के लिए तैयार है. इस्राईल और जार्डन सीरिया पर हमले की स्थिती में किसी पलटवार के लिए अपने युद्धास्त्रो पर तेल लगा रहे है. तुर्की ने अमेरिका द्वारा किसी भी सीधी कार्यवाही का खुला समर्थन कर दिया है. रूस और चीन इस इंतज़ार में है कि अमेरिका संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ में प्रस्ताव लायेगा और वह वीटो करेंगे लेकिन अमेरिका को  संयुक्त राष्ट्र की फिलहाल कोई जरुरत बिलकुल नहीं है. ईरान ने बड़ी सधी हुई प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए पश्चिमी देशो को विवेक से काम लेने की सलाह दी है और युद्ध थोपने की शंका जाहिर की है.

After the Arab countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan and some African Muslim regions, the radical Wahhabi/Salafi Ideology is now aggressively engaged in radicalizing new Muslim generations of India. It is about time for the silent majority of peace-loving mainstream Muslims to speak up and give up remaining silent onlookers. An overwhelming majority of Indian Muslims are peaceful, nationalistic, patriotic and followers of the Sufi saints. Given this, it is quite shocking and shameful that Wahhabi extremism has started sweeping across this country too.

New Age Islam Foundation organised a brainstorming session in its own premises in Delhi on Saturday, 24th of August, with a number of Islamic scholars, Sufi ideologues, social activists and grassroots workers with an aim to finding newer ways of checking the growth of hard-line ideology in the country and spreading the Islamic message of peace and tolerance as a counterattack on the ideological extremism that seems to be fast overwhelming Indian Muslim mindset too.

The meeting was part of a broad agenda of New Age Islam Foundation to foster global peace by ideologically countering extremist, militant ideologies. The agenda was to determine how New Age Islam Foundation can further contribute to reducing the deleterious impact of religious extremism, doctrinal conservatism, and theological radicalism penetrating into the mindset of the global Muslim community in general and the new generation of Indian Muslims in particular.

Part-1 The Fatwa begins with the redefinition of 'innocence' in a relative manner to suggest that the civilians killed in 9/11 attacks shared ‘the guilt’, and deserved to be killed. This notion negates the principle of universal justice as enjoined by the Qur'an (VI Terms of Reference, Part-1). It then argues that "If the infidels kill Muslim women, children and the elderly, meting out the same treatment to the infidels is justified” and moves on to a very gory and totally unrelated topic: mutilation of the corpse of the Prophet Muhammad’s uncle Hamza in the battlefield of Uhad, giving revolting details. It repeatedly references unrelated Qur'anic verses/passages 2:194, 16:126-128, and 42:39-42 exhorting restraint and patience in warfare, apparently to lend authority to its statements.

Any person reading a translation of the Arabic Qur’an line by line for the first time is bound to be perplexed if he/she is a believing Muslim and simply bewildered and alienated if he is Qur’an-sceptic Muslim or a non-Muslim. He can neither connect one verse or passage with the next, nor can he find any beauty, coherence and subtlety in its diction. Stark ignorant of the subtlety and nuances of the Qur’anic Arabic, and confronted by literal translation of its idioms and poetical and eschatological imageries, he is angered and frustrated. With no background knowledge of the Qur’an’s historical and Biblical allusions, he is completely at a loss to make any head or tail of what comes under his eyes. With turning of each page he confronts, often in the midst of disjointed and abstruse themes, divine threats and altruistic commandments, both of which he loathes to swallow. Instability awaits Kabul once US pulls out

I DON'T do quagmires”, Donald Rumsfeld had once declared rather grandly. He didn’t believe in exit strategies either. Yet, eight years later with casualties rising to a little more than one death a day in Afghanistan and expenses crossing US $ 450 billion, in December 2009 President Obama, referred to July 2011 as the date by which the US would begin to pull out of Afghanistan . This state has been the result of a policy that presumed that military supremacy was an unqualified good born of American superiority. Great though the power of the American military machine might have been, it was not great enough to solve problems such as global terrorism of the al Qaeda variety. America needed help of friends, demonised its own supporters like President Karzai, it chose other friends wrongly and declined others’ advice. Consequently, it ended fighting the wrong war at the wrong place with wrong tactics.

The declared US objective has been to take out Al Qaeda from Afghanistan so that they do not become a threat to the US and its allies. Yet the Al Qaeda is not in Afghanistan; it is mostly in Pakistan with sanctuaries in Yemen and Afghanistan. It is the Taliban that is mostly in Afghanistan with sanctuaries in Pakistan, so the result is that the US has been fighting an obscurantist section of an ethnic component of Afghanistan whose objective has been to throw the foreigner out and seems to be succeeding. The Taliban now represent, by and large, the Pushtun sentiment in Afghanistan and they are spreading into Kunduz in the north as well. It is possible now that the US will re- evaluate its policy towards Pakistan following the killing of seven CIA operatives inside the CIA camp in Khost; an attack that originated with the Pakistan Taliban. This act highlighted not only the dangers of counter terror operations but also that the level of commitment in the opposition to the US was very high. The US now wants to achieve something in eighteen months what has not been possible in eight years.
