Hurling A Shoe At The Chief Justice of India: A Deeper Religious Malice

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 8 October 2025 A 71-year-old advocate allegedly threw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai during proceedings inside the Supreme Court Monday morning. The police let him go later in the day after the CJI instructed the court’s registrar general not to press charges, sources told The Indian Express. Delhi Police sources told The Indian Express that the advocate, who was identified as Rakesh Kishore, claimed during questioning that he was “unhappy with the CJI’s remarks” during a recent hearing of a plea seeking the restoration of a Lord Vishnu idol at the Khajuraho temple complex in Madhya Pradesh. This country has now become religiously too sensitive, nay sick. Earlier, only Muslims would take umbrage at anything even related to their desert religion. Now Hindus are also emulating them on this count and feeling bad whenever their Sanatan Dharm (a foolish term that emerged only a decade ago) and its innumerable deities are mentioned in a perceived 'flippant' manner. Religion has destroyed mankind, desecrated the sanctity of human life and defiled humans. This 71-year-old lawyer should have been behind bars but the gentleman CJI didn't take any action against the rogue lawyer. Despite that, this ruffian lawyer's action is indicative of a deeper malice and a simmering issue. Why is every remark, comment or statement being viewed as an insult to the Sanatan Dharm? Do the proponents of Sanatan understand the implications of the term? Sanatan is Nit Nutan (ever-evolving). Sage Bharthari said, "Nit Nutan Sarvgrahi Sarvanam Kadapi Na Dosh Bhavanti" (What's ever-evolving is all encompassing; it, therefore, accepts all and finds nothing objectionable). Sanatan is an eternal process. It doesn't stop. But Hindu or Eastern consciousness or Praachya Chetna stopped long ago when it became Hindu-ism. A Chetna or Consciousness doesn't consist of good or bad. It's indifferent. When you add Dharm to it, you indoctrinate your Chetna and make it an organised faith like Islam, Christianity or Zoroastrianism. You also take objection to religious things just the way Islam and Christianity react when their revered characters are treated lightly and slightly. Hindus haven't understood the concept of Sanatan because most of them are Sanskrit-challenged. They've not read their own religious texts. They're equating consciousness with religion and in the process, they've failed to understand both. Duvidha Mein Dou Gaye/ Maya Mili Na Ram. So, the moron who hurled a shoe at the CJI has only shown his utter ignorance. He doesn't know the difference between Sanatan or Praachya Chetna and rigid / ritualistic Hinduism.
