Seema Haider And Sachin's Love Saga

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 15 July 2023 Eternally indolent and jovially jobless people of two juvenile countries, India and Pakistan, are deeply immersed in the Vameq-Azra kind (ostensibly, of course) of theatrical love between a 30-yr-old Seema Haider from Pakistan and one 25-yr-old Sachin from India. The woman, with four kids, is now a Sanatani. Since the woman left Islam, she's now a Murtad Arabic for an apostate) who deserves to be killed (Waajib-ul-Qatl) according to the clerics in Pakistan. Sanatanis are happy that one Muslim has come into their fold along with her four kids. The whole saga seems to be a hugely predictable Gulshan Nanda-type of a Hindi love story popular among the 'sub-elite' readers of small, sleepy and unambitious towns in the 60s and 70s. Seema Haider and Sachin with Seema’s children ----- This 30-yr-old semi-urban woman with four children is so smitten by an extremely ordinary young man working in a grocery shop that she risked her life and also of her children to come to India for the culmination of their love story. Does this sound feasible? One who cannot even recite Kalma and Surah-Al-Fatihah raises many questions and doubts. Even if she's a genuine person madly in love with a guy from a neighbouring country, it remains to be seen whether this love lasts or fizzles out. She has risked her life and jeopardized her children's existence. If she's a petty spy and on a mission, Pakistan will disown her just like India disowned Sarabjeet Singh who died in a jail in Pakistan. A spy is always an orphan. When he or she is caught by the enemy country, parental country immediately distances itself from them. That's par for the course and often perfectly legitimate. And if she's a genuine person with no mala-fide intentions, no need to deport her because once she's sent back to Pakistan, she'll be killed along with her innocent kids. It's a veritable Catch-22 situation for her. That apart, a question remains: Is love so irresponsible? Seema is not an adolescent who's head over heels in love. Yet, her love affair has all the ingredients of puppy love or calf love. Can PUBG-induced love be so blindingly intense that it causes one to leave the country and cross over surreptitiously, that too, with children? She's 30-yr-old and have four children. Has she thought of the ramifications of her love? Munshi Premchand wrote, "Muhabbat Ki Sargarmiyaan Nateeje Ki Taraf Se Bilkul Bekhabar Hoti Hain" (The passion of love is often oblivious of its outcome). Love and logic are indeed poles asunder. Our boisterous TV channels and publications should also refrain from covering this episode of cross-border love, day in and day out. We all seem to be perversely interested in the lives of other people. Petty issues appeal to the masses as they get a kinky kick out of them. It's time to divert our attention to more serious issues. ---- A regular columnist for New Age Islam, Sumit Paul is a researcher in comparative religions, with special reference to Islam.
