Evangelization Is A Core Part And Practice In Christianity

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 5 August 2025 While one agrees with Mr Ram Puniyani that “Hate Crimes Against Christians In India Have Risen By An Alarming 40.87 Percent," there's no denying the fact that Christian missionaries and many clandestine Christian outfits in India have been converting people on the sly. The two Christian nuns, detained at Durg Station in MP, may be innocent but the same cannot be said about the majority of missionaries, nuns, brothers and fathers. The dawn of Christianity to India dates back to the arrival of Saint Thomas to Kodungallur in Kerala in 52 AD and establishment of the ‘Seven Churches’ for gospel activities, though some modern historians, esp. biblical historians in the West, are of the view that he never visited India; it's apocryphal. But it's widely believed that he succeeded in converting local Indians to Christianity. His converts were called Syrian Christians. In other words, the conversion game began right from the advent of Christianity. According to Salt Pepper's blog, the Europeans arrived in India for commercial reasons but they also started converting local Indians to Christianity. Of all five Europeans (British, French, Danish, Dutch and Portuguese) Portuguese were most keen on baptising Indians. They also tried to enforce Roman Catholicism on Syrian Christians of Kerala. The British (mostly Protestants) arrived in India in 1600 but allowed missionary activities only in 1813. In addition to spreading Christianity, these missionaries also provided basic necessities of life like food, clothes and shelter to the needy. They built many schools in India but were less successful than Portuguese in converting Indians. Unlike the Portuguese who enforced Christianity, Protestant converts were voluntary. Evangelization is a core part and practice in Christianity. It refers to the act of Christian gospel- the message of the PUTATIVE Jesus Christ- with others, often with a view to converting them to Christianity. By the way, I always call Jesus PUTATIVE because the latest findings in the western world suggest that Jesus never existed and it's one of the biggest hoaxes that still persists. Since the evidence of Jesus' non-existence will break the backbone of Christianity and also question the authenticity of the Quran as 'god's unalloyed word' because the mention of Jesus and his mother is there in the 'holy' book of Muslims, this fact is being suppressed by the followers of Semitic faiths. That said, Christianity's ONLY objective is to Christianise the whole world. It's, therefore, incumbent upon all the Christians to 'save the benighted souls' by converting them to Christianity. This extreme condescension or 'spiritual snobbery' can be compared to the shameless and most incorrigible imperialist Rudyard Kipling's derogatory phrase, The White Man's Burden, taken from his eponymous poem written in 1899. The refrain that only Jesus can save an impure and endangered soul from sinking into the abyss of eternal darkness is ingrained in the hearts and minds of all Christians. Needless to say, this putrid bilge has no basis and no foundation. Yet, missionaries and evangelists consider it their lifetime vocation to spread an imaginary god's word. This whole conversion business of Christianity and Islam is nothing but a number game based on recruitment and regimentation. Here I must add that pristine Hindu or Eastern Consciousness never believed in conversions. Unadulterated Hinduism, not this silly Sanatan business, believed in the Vertical Conversion or Evolutionary Conversion whereas Islam and Christianity believe in the Horizontal or Exponential Conversion which is so demeaning, cheap and business-like. ----- A regular columnist for New Age Islam, Sumit Paul is a researcher in comparative religions, with special reference to Islam.
